Overview
In medical practice digestive difficulties may present diagnostic and specially therapeutic problems, which are not due to organic afflictions of the gastrointestinal tract but are caused by functionaldisorders. They may be the consequence of reactions to food or some food components. Thereforeattention is focused on the definition of intestinal food allergies, their prevalence, pathogenesis, clinical manifestation, the most frequent allergens, immunological reactions and therapy. Specialattention is devoted to diagnosis, which is very difficult, and to the promising method of investi-gating the direct reaction of gut mucosa to the local allergen application.
