Overview
The authors summarise 5-year practical experience with the diagnosis and treatment of familialhypercholesterolaemia in school children and adolescents born to risk parents or grandparents, subjected to aortocoronary or peripheral arterial bypasses. In case of failure of a low-cholesteroldiet it was necessary only in 20 % of the older children to use medicamentous treatment andmetabolically strictly monitored treatment. An integral part of treatment is an aimed changeof the lifestyle (exercise and diet) in the family associated with purposeful active education ofparents and grandparents who participate in the child´s training in the family.
