The methods of training of respiratory muscles, so called respiratory physiotherapy, aredescribed and discussed from the standpoint of respiratory physiology. The author´s ownexperience with application of exercise training in patients with inflammatory and obstructivelung diseases is presented. The author differentiated between three types of exercise trainingmethods. The first is applied in local inflammatory changes incl. surgical interventions on thechest, the second group of methods represents the complex of exercises appropriate in patientswith obstructive lung diseases such as asthma bronchiale and emphysema, the third consistsof methods used in disturbances of ventilatory mechanics. Most patients have positive responsesto exercise, sometimes whiteout little or no change in pulmonary tests. The exact indicationwith respect to the principles of exercise physiology is recommended.
