Liposomal ozonated oil is a new ocular antiseptic with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative properties, making it suitable for the prevention and treatment of eye infections and as an adjuvant in wound healing. In June 2022, Spanish authors published a review summarizing findings on the mechanism of action and results of preclinical and clinical studies with ozonated oil in the treatment of eye infections and in the regeneration of the ocular surface. News Previous Treatment of Osteoporosis May Affect the Efficacy of Romosozumab

A study conducted by a team of authors from several clinical sites in Japan shows that the type and duration of previous osteoporosis treatment just before starting romosozumab affects its therapeutic effect. Romosozumab, as an antibody targeting sclerostin, stimulates bone formation and suppresses bone resorption. The authors of the study investigated whether the efficacy of 12-month treatment with romosozumab depends on the duration of prior treatment with teriparatide, denosumab, or oral bisphosphonates.

News Maintenance Therapy of a Female Patient with AML After Intense Chemotherapy – Case Study

The following case study presents the case of a female patient with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who experienced life-threatening complications after the second consolidation chemotherapy, rendering her incapable of undergoing further intense therapy or allogeneic HSCT. In this situation, maintenance therapy with oral azacitidine proved beneficial – this modality, due to its good tolerance, can be used as a bridge until allo-HSCT can be performed in patients in poor clinical condition.

The QUAZAR AML-001 study showed that oral azacitidine maintenance therapy significantly prolongs relapse-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in first remission after intensive chemotherapy (including induction ± consolidation therapy), who are not candidates for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), compared to placebo. In October 2023, results of a subgroup analysis of patients stratified according to the use/non-use of consolidation chemotherapy and the number of consolidation chemotherapy cycles administered before entering the study were published.
