The Effect of Mechanotherapy on Swelling after LCA Plasty

Overview
The contribution was aimed at demonstrating the influence of manual lymph drainage on reduction of swelling after arthroscopic solution of damaged anterior cruciate ligament (LCA). The selected group included 42 top sportsmen after operation on anterior cruciate ligament with different rehabilitation treatment procedures. All sportsmen executed aimed kinesiotherapy and manual lymph drainage (ML) with lymphtaping was added in 21 of them. The unoperated extremity was used for the control comparison. The data for comparison were obtained by measuring the circumference of lower extremities and compared by the paired t-test. In the six weeks of observation the lymph drainage together with lymphtaping caused a significantly higher reduction of swelling in all measured circumferences (p<0.01). In the extremities without lymph drainage a statistically significant difference of the circumferences persisted.
