Overview
The authors performed a retrospective analysis in a group of consecutively treated patients with upper GIT fistules (ie. fistules with internal orifices in the esophageal, gastric and proximal small intestine region), hospitalized in the Plzeň hospital Surgical Clinic Septic Intensive Care Unit, from January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2008. The author assessed the results using statistical methods and he studied any causative relationship between the characteristics of the fistules, the treatment methods and the patients morbidity/mortality rates.
