Overview
Bowel intussusception in adulthood is relatively rare. It is the cause of bowel movement disorders in around 1–5% of cases. In contrast to intussusception in childhood, where the cause is usually unclear, in adulthood the unequivocal causes are known in 70–90% of cases. These predominantly include benign tumours of the small intestine.
The authors describe 2 case reports, where small bowel intussusception was the cause of the bowel movement disorder and non-specific abdominal pain.
This clinical entity must be kept in mind as the possible cause of non-specific abdominal pain in adulthood. If a malignancy is suspected, then the rules of oncological surgery should be followed
Key words:
intussusception – small intestine
