Overview
The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus is growing and it has become the non-infectious pandemia of the 21th century arround the world. In the past the diabetics were dying predominantly due to the acute complications. Nowadays the late vascular complications are the main cause of morbidity and mortality of the diabetics. Diabetics are compared to the non-diabetics in 2 to 4 fold higher risk of the development of the coronary artery disease, they are 3 to 5 times more often endagered in vascular brain events and the risk of the lower leg amputations is 20 to 40 fold higher in patients with diabetes compared to common population.
These macrovascular complications are the cause of mortality in 75 % of the diabetics.
The main aim of the article is to focus on the late vascular diabetes complications and to refer to the difference of their clinical manifestation compared to the non-diabetic population.
