Overview
During the period from 1994-1999 the authors performed at the Urological Clinic of the Faculty Hospital. Third Medical Clinic Charles University radical nephrectomy on account of adenocarcinoma of the kidney in 170 patients aged 29 to 85 years. With the development of radiodiagnostic methods and ultrasonography the detection of newly diagnosed diseases increases. The authors found a rising number of new cases detected and operated at the authors department in subsequent years (from 23 cases in 1994 to 32 in 1999).In 1994 the ratio of symptom-free renal adenocarcinomas in our group accounted for 26%, in 1999 for 59% of asymptomatically detected cases. The authors evaluated the three-year survival in relation to the extent of the primary tumour and grading of the disease at the time of surgery in a total of 81 patients. They recorded a higher percentage of survival in patients with a lowe pTa and grading of the disease. Tumours with a higher pT had on average a significantly higher grading of malignity and thus a smaller chance of survival. There was a significant difference between patients of groups G1 and G3.In out group of patients we found a rising ratio of women with the diagnosis of renal adenocarcinoma. In 1994 they accounted only for 26% in the group, while in 1999 for 50% of new cases.
