Objective:
The paper draws attention to the importance of modern diagnostic methods manometry and 24-hour pH-metry - in diseases of the oesophagus and cardia with impairedfunction.Method: Stationary manometry using a perfusion system and 24-hour ambulatory pH-metrywere used in the examination algorithm in patients with impaired oesophageal function. Theseare supplementary methods for a more accurate diagnosis of impaired oesophageal motility. Inparticular exact qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the gastroesophageal reflux is ofgreat importance for a more accurate indication for surgery. During the postoperative periodthese methods were used to evaluate the results of surgery.Results: During the first year the authors examined in their functional laboratory a total of 106patients, incl. 53 who were operated.Conclusion: The described procedure is a supplementary examination which makes the diagno-sis and indication for surgery more accurate. They are also important for the follow-up andevaluation of surgical results.
