Overview
Nephropathies and tumours of the epithelium of the urinary pathways caused by analgeticsare associated with the consumption of analgetics and antipyretics. Analgetics and antipyreticsand non-steroid antirheumatics can hasten the progression of non-analgetic nephropathies, andnon-steroid antirheumatics have also other varied adverse effects on the kidneys. In thesubmitted paper the authors present an analysis of mass produced analgetics antipyreticsavailable during the past three decades and changes in the composition of combined analgetics. The authors analyze the trend sales of analgetics which contributed most frequently to renalfailure as a result of analgetic nepropathy in patients entering a chronic dialyzation programmein 1992 and compare the consumption in the past and present decade. They also follow up thetrend of sales of the most frequently used non-steroid antirheumatics and paracetamol. In thediscussion they emphasize the relationship between the consumption of analgetics and theundesirable effects on the kidneys and urinary pathways.
