Overview

The authors investigated in a group of adult patients in the age bracket from 15-70 yearshospitalized on account of gastroenteritis at the Infectious Diseases Clinic Faculty HospitalPlzeň in 1994-1998. Differences in the clinical picture and course of the disease in patients withsalmonellosis (a total of 746 patients) and in patients where during hospitalization ulcerativecolitis was diagnosed (a total of 20 patients) were described. Despite the small number patients in the second group some important differences in the course of the disease wereobserved (longer and more significant enterorrhagia) and in the history of the current disease(a markedly longer period with enteral symptoms). The results of laboratory examinations didnot differ markedly.

Key words:
salmonellosis - ulcerative colitis - enterorrhagia - coloscopy.
