Primary laryngeal B lymphoma with plasmocyoid diff erentiation – a case report

Summary

Primary non-Hodgkin laryngeal lymphoma is a rare disease with a prevalence under 1% of all tumors of the larynx. It originates mostly in the supraglottis region and presents itself as a nonulcerative solid tumor. Patient can suffer from dysphonia, dysphagia, foreign body sensation, dyspnea or even suffocation. Diagnosis is based on microlaryngoscopy and histopathology. The treatment options are chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy or their combination. In our report, we present the case of an 86-year-old woman with a history of over a year of progressive dysphonia and dyspnea. Samples were taken during direct microlaryngoscopy under general anesthesia. In frozen sections, there was a high suspicion of lymphoma, and that was also confirmed from definitive histopathology. The patient was given over to the hemato-oncologist. There was a prompt response to chemotherapy, with relief from the symptoms even after the first dose. The aim of our study is to highlight this condition in the differential diagnosis of laryngeal tumors and the causes of dyspnea, summarize the knowledge of the disorder and the modality of treatment according to recent literature.
