Overview
Nocturnal enuresis is a common condition, affecting 15% of children aged 5 years. The incidence of nocturnal enuresis declines with age. Children with enuresis are vulnerable to low self-esteem, which improves if enuresis is succesfuly treated. The patogenesis of the enuresis is multifactorial, there are three known factors - nocturnal polyuria, reduced nocturnal bladder capacity and disorders of arousal. Desmopressin, alarm therapy and anticholinergics are used in therapy, sometimes in combination therapy.
