Urolithiasis in child patients - have modern times brought new options?

Overview

Urolithiasis at an child age is not a common disorder but is prone to recurrence. The most frequent causes are metabolic malfunctions, often combined with other factors (obstructive uropathy, infection). The most commonly applied treatment is extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy. Endoscopic treatment (ureteroscopy, percutaneous concrement extraction) has been of increasing significance, as a result of recent development of endoscopes and the possibilities of intracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy. Treatment must be indicated strictly individually with regard to potential complications. The objective is a complete removal of concrement and subsequent metabolic examination.
