Overview
The inadequate iodine intake of the population of the Czech population and in particular in the Ústí region is generally known. Iodine intake of children and in particular gipsy children is a major problem. The programme for the solution of iodine deficiency in our region comprises in addition to careful monitoring also nutritional intervention.Three-month administration of milk with a supplement containing nucleotides and iodine led to a significant improvement of ioduria levels. Surprising were the findings of very good iodine saturation of gipsy children where - 7.3% subjects with grade I iodine deficiency were found. All these values were however in the upper layer of this deficiency within the range of 90-99 mg/g creatinine. The mean values of ioduria in children aged 7-12 years before supplementation were in a group of 96 subjects 197.5±75.7 mg/g creatinine. The values had a declining trend with age, however there was no significant difference between the sexes.
