Overview
Dietotherapy together with pharmacological treatment of obesity show significant efficacy in the management of metabolic syndrome, manifested as a reduction in the need for further medication and effective long‑term weight reduction. Dietotherapy in geriatric patients has some specific features; its use in older patients is for many reasons more complicated and requires greater effort from the therapist than in younger populations. The present paper discusses the main principles of dietotherapy and the difficulties accompanying it. Case studies are provided for illustration.
