Overview
Bear-Fedio Inventory (BFI), published in 1977, measures hypothetical characteristics of interictal behavior of patients with temporal epilepsy. It issued from descriptions of manifestations, which are denominated as Geschwind Syndrome, with the main triad hypergraphia, hyperreligiosity and hyposexuality. BFI is henceforth used, and sometimes with inspirational results.
Methods:
To a sample consisting of 127 patients with epilepsy BFI, the Czech method Subjective Feeling and States (SUPOS), Washington Psychosocial Inventory (WPSI) and anamnestic questionnaire were administered.
Results:
l. significantly higher values in temporal epilepsy patients (n = 49) were find only in one scale of BFI, obsessionalism. In SUPOS the patients with temporal epilepsy had significantly lower psychological well-being and significantly higher anxiosity. 2. There were no significant differences among patients with temporal epilepsy with lateralized EEG finding on the left (n = 15) and on the right (n = 10).
3. There were many significant correlations among BFI, all eleven anamnestic variables and validity of answers. 4. Many scales of BFI had significantly lower values with positive subjective feelings and significantly higher values with negative feelings. Values of BFI scales very often positively correlate with higher psychosocial problems according to WPSI.
Conclusion:
BFI is not only matter of history.
