The author deals with the history of research into sexual behaviour of the population, its widersocial associations and emphasizes the importance of valid information from this area for effecti-ve prevention and for sex education. He mentions the main surveys implemented in the last twodecades in the US, Europe and the Czech Republic. In the conclusion he deals with some metho-dological aspects of investigations concerned with similar problems.
