Zolpidem is a structurally different hypnotic drug. According to recent literature, it lacks a risk ofaddiction. The withdrawal syndrome in a woman who abused zolpidem, and formerly was de-pendent on alcohol and benzodiazepines, is described in this case - report. References whichsupport the possibility of drug addiction, tolerance or withdrawal syndrome in patients treatedwith zolpidem are reviewed. Our case-history contradicts the opinion on safety of zolpidem and itow risk of abuse.
