Overview
Urinary tract reconstruction is an integral part of kidney transplantation. The aim of urinary tract reconstruction is to obtain optimum and socially acceptable drainage of urine from the transplanted kidney. The anatomical and functional status of the urinary tract significantly affects not only the patient´s quality of life after kidney transplantation, but also the function and survival of the transplanted kidney, and of the patients themselves.
Urological complications, related to urinary tract reconstruction, create a specific family among surgical complications after kidney transplantation, and belong to the most severe complications after kidney transplantation. They can cause loss of the transplanted kidney, and endanger the patient´s life.
In the case of urological complications, immediate precise diagnostics and appropriate surgical therapy, based on individual characteristics of the complication, is indicated.
