After a brief history of the use of peloids in medicine, the authors discuss the technical processingand preparation of peloids for therapeutic use. They explain in detail the mechanical and thermop-hysical effects of peloid procedures on the human organism and mention their correct prescriptionwithin the framework of comprehensive spa treatment along with instructions for correct preparationof baths, peloid packs and tampons. The authors try to explain the effect of peloids on the skin, andtheir chemical and antibacterial action. They enumerate forms of lege artis peloid therapy. They alsodraw attention to so-called peloid procedures, which lack corresponding effect of peloid applicationson the human organism. In conclusion indications of peloid therapy are given.
