Otitis media secretoria, the most frequent cause of conduction disorders in children.At the ENT department of the Masaryk Hospital in Ústí hearing was evaluated after the applicationof the ventilation tube Stipula which was used in the treatment ofOMSin 1983 - 2000. In 338 patientsa total of 816 VTwere used hearing evaluation was based on audiometric findings immediately afterapplication and after a time interval of 5 - 10 years. Normalization or improvement of hearingimmediately after application was recorded in 88.1% treated ears, hearing is unaltered in 8%,deterioration occurred in 3.9%. After 10 years normal hearing was recorded in 79.2% of treated ears.The authors describe the criteria for insertion of VT, they mention types of secretions in otitis media,different groups of patients by the state of their hearing. The presence of a cholesteatoma was foundin 6 ears (1.9%), an adhesive process in the middle ear in 14 ears (4.3%).
