Overview
The sensation of obstruction of nasal patency is a common symptom in patients witha cold, nasal polyps and inequalities of the nasal septum. It is very variable as regards subjectiveevaluation, it is difficult to quantify in clinical practice, more difficult than complete obstruction.A generally accepted method for assessment of nasal patency is rhinomanometry but the high priceof the instrument does not make its use possible in every department. By assessment in clinicalpractice it is possible to assess the extent of the structural deformity of the septumand by assessmentafter anaemization also the extent of the mucosal participation in the nasal resistance. For experimentalpurposes it is useful for measuring the effect of drugs which influence mucosal decongestion. In liminal indications of septoplasty it facilitates the decision of surgery or conservative treatmentof nasal obstruction, after operation it makes it possible to evaluate its effect. The objective of thework is tomakethe professional public familiar with the principle of themethod, clinical endoscopic findings and the corresponding rhinograms.
