Overview
Civilisation trends are accompanied by higher average lifespan. Considering the current number of outpatient geriatricians in the Czech Republic we come to the 1 geriatrician to 100 000 geriatric patients ratio. Therefore, getting one single geriatric outpatient visit is unlikely and long-term geriatric follow up is pure virtual reality. The article depicts current geriatric care regarding medical coverage, the author is trying to define necessary conditions to provide such a care. Case reports depict current means general practitioners have to provide geriatric care. GP´s would have mutual profit when cooperating with geriatricians. General medicine and geriatrics are quite similar specialities dealing with large scale of knowledge, they are based on cooperation, individualized approach to patients rather than a strict use of current guidelines frequently used in other medical subspecialties.
