Overview
The objective of our investigation was to find out what is feasible in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases by general practitioners and to knoty their views who should participate in provision of primary and secondary prevention. Method: A simple questionnaire was elaborated for GPs in the region. Results: The return rate of questionnaires was 30 from 50 sent (60%). The GPs look after a total of 49 131 patients. Primary prevention is provided by doctors to a total of 2335 patients (5%) and secondary prevention to a total of 3275 patients (7.9%). Nine doctors (31%) use risk tables and their use does not depend on the age or sex of the GP. 10 doctors (34%) examine also relatives of patients with IHD. Conclusions: Our pilot study showed the need to improve the provision of preventioe care of cardiovascular diseases. In future it will be necessary to create a common projed for all involved subjects (GPs, consultants, hospitals, non-profit subjects, fit centres, hygiene stations).
