Overview
The authors give an account on the contemporary situation as regards the incidence of anthrax in the world and specify the position in the Czech Republic from the second half of the 20th century. They characterize the ways of natural infection and clinical manifestations of this zoonosis. Subsequently they mention the possible abuse of anthrax for bioterrorist purposes. An account is given of the treatment and prognosis of different types of the disease. In the conclusion the authors summarize preventive measures and outline post-exposure prophylactic provisions.
