Mortality of Subjects in Social Services Institutions in 1990-1000

The authors assessed the mortality rate of people in social services facilities (old age pensioners homes and boarding houses for old age pensioners) in 1990-2000. A total of 147 subjects died - 84 women (57.1 %) and 63 mean (42.9 %). The mean age of men who died was 75.7 years, of women 79.5 years. The mean mortality during the investigation period was 106.8 %o. Within one year after admission 23.1 % people died, within six months after admission 16.3 %. Twenty-two subjects had post-mortems (15 %), significantly more men. 51.7 % subjects died in the social services institutions, 45.6 % in hospitals and 2.2 % elsewhere (outdoors, at home while on leave etc.). The most frequent cause of death according to the main (basic) diagnosis esere cardiovascular diseases. On comparison of the specific mortality of the people in social services institutions in 1995-2000 with the specific mortality of the entire Slovak population in 1999 it was found tkat the specific mortality of women is higher in all age groups.
