Overview
The incidence of thrombosis in children is very low compared to the adult population. Very probably mostvenous thrombembolic events (VTE) occur in children which have either acquired either inherited prothromboticrisk. Identifying children with such increased risk of VTE may enable better therapy and in some cases evenprevention of thrombembolic events. Moreover identification of inherited prothrombotic risk factors in childshould lead to family studies and thus prevent serious sequellae of VTE also in other family members. The authorspresent an evidence based approach to investigation of child with VTE.
