Overview

Lichen slerosus et atrophicus (LSA) is a chronic recurrent skin disease. In childhood the disease is usually restricted to genital area. Not only dermatologists but also urologists, surgeons and gynecologists care for such patients. The disease is rare and symptoms are non-specific that is why it might take even several years to make the correct diagnosis.

The authors present a retrospective analysis of LSA patients diagnosed at the outpatient department of The Pediatric Dermatology in the period 2006 to 2010. The majority of patients were treated by several specialists before. The median time of making correct diagnosis was half a year. Including LSA in the differential diagnosis of GPs and specialists, mainly gynecologists and urologists, is essential for making early diagnosis.

Key words:
Lichen slerosus et atrophicus – Balanitis xerotica obliterans – diagnosis – clinical symptoms – therapy
