Overview
Nursing care provided by a nurse is based on the use of a nursing process. It is a method consisting of five steps, concentrated on elimination or abolition of patient’s problems. An important component of the whole process is the establishment of nurse‘s diagnosis. To improve the quality of the care provided by the method of nursing process, nurse can use rating scales. There are plenty of different rating scales especially in psychiatry. The scales must accomplish set of parameters with good reliability and validity as a basic assumption. A lot of rating scales for assessment of mental disorders can be used by psychiatric nurses. In our review the basic principles of nursing process in psychiatry are described and two scales dedicated for use by nurses NOSIE (Nurses Observation Scale for Inpatient Evaluation) a PECC (Psychosis Evaluation tool for Common use by Caregivers) are depicted in more details. NOSIE is widely used scale based on observation of patient’s behavior and expression. PECC has greater range than NOSIE and is designated for all professionals, who take care of patients with psychosis. Its use is more demanding than NOSIE.
Key words:
