An account on the development of the Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) in the Czech Republic during1990 – 1999 based on interpretation of statistical data is presented. Great attention is given to trendsand their interpretation. Characteristics of the BTS in 1990 and 1999 respectively are presented inseparate chapters. Unambiguous progress in practically all parameters during the last decade isdocumented in many Graphs and Tables. Changes in the donor population are interpreted in connectionwith positive trends of detection of infections important for recipients.
