Overview
The authors investigated a group of 43 patients with disorders of the cervical spine.Dynamic scintigraphy revealed a significant prolongation of the passage (MTT) of 10 ml radionuclide labelled water through the oesophagus as compared with a control group. In subjects treated by acupuncture significant reduction of MTT was recorded as compared with patients with placebo application of needles. In patients treated by manipulative therapy regression of complaints was associated also with a significant reduction of MTT. Dynamic scintigraphy makes it possible to verify functional affections of the oesophagus in patients with vertebrogenic complaints and to monitor the success of treatment.
