Overview
Stroke is a severe disease, a worldwide medical and economic problem. Despite reducing mortality in the Czech Republic, the incidence is still high. The main aim of our research was to focus on the comprehensive prevention of ischemic stroke in people living in the Czech Republic; a sub-objective was to evaluate the psychological burden of work as a possible risk factor for stroke. A combination of a non-standardized stroke prevention questionnaire, a non-standardized questionnaire to assess occupational and psychological strain, and a standardized general health literacy questionnaire (HLSQ-16) were used to collect data. These factors were then analyzed about each sociodemographic characteristic and then compared by mean values with each other to determine the strength of their influence. The field survey was conducted throughout the CR using the technique of a standardized personal interview between the interviewer and the respondent from November to December 2019. The sample of citizens was constructed as a quota sample and was structured to match the composition of all citizens of the Czech Republic in terms of regions, gender, and age. These characteristics were intended to be representative. In total, the sample consists of 1004 citizens. The assessment of psychological stress was carried out on respondents involved in the work process. 66.0% (N = 663) of respondents participated in this assessment. Statistical data processing was done using SASD 1.4.12 (Statistical Analysis of Social Data) and SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). In evaluating the non-standardized questionnaire for assessing psychological distress, in some cases, the power of the test was weakened by the insufficient number of observations in the three fields of the contingency table, so Yates correction was applied. According to the results, factors representing the most significant psychological strain include time pressure and the fact that the work is so demanding that it cannot be done for years with the same performance. Conversely, according to our respondents, the least burdensome factors were the ability to maintain attention at work and the presence of conflicts and problems at work.
