Overview
The authors discuss the evaluation of acute geriatric care at geriatric institutions in comparison with internal medicine wards in terms of economic aspects. The criterion are the cost at the individual workplaces and length of hospitalization. Two most common diagnoses with which senior citizens are hospitalised were monitored, throughout the year. This argumentation proves that a geriatrician‘s care is less costly in the acute stage and does not prolong the hospitalization. Therefore it is, from the perspective of economic evaluation, a good way to cover the expected increase in financial costs associated with the aging population.
