Introduction: Working with bereaved parents is an immense challenge for professionals in the field of perinatal care and requires a high level of knowledge and skills. Simulation training is a safe and effective method for students or health care professionals to deepen experience and strengthen communication skills in taking care of parents in case of perinatal loss in a safe environment.

Aim: Create a review study focused on description of experience with simulation teaching of perinatal palliative care abroad.

Method: A literature review. A systematic search for peer reviewed publications in English was conducted via SCOPUS, Medline/PubMed, EBSCOhost, Science Direct, Wiley and ProQuest databases.

Results: Five studies were found that met the selection criteria. The process of simulation training (prebriefing, role playing, debriefing), perinatal loss scenarios and evaluation of simulation training were analysed and described. The concept of a standardized patient was used in all studies to play the role of grieving parents. The participants were cast in the roles of health care professionals or observers.

Conclusion: Simulation training of palliative perinatal care is recommended as a valid and reliable method. Foreign experience can be inspiring and stimulating for simulation training in the Czech Republic.
