Overview

In this article the authors review the current position of cardiac rehabilitation. They explain the term “cardiac rehabilitation” and for which patients it may be considered. They submit the data obtained from the analysis of the results of numerous randomised trials involving thousands of patients. They emphasise the benefits for each of the groups of patients and demonstrate that the risks related to cardiac rehabilitation are often overestimated. The positive effect of this type of treatment is proven, as well as the effect of pharmacological or catheterisation and surgical treatments.

Key words:
cardiovascular diseases, cardiac rehabilitation, physical exercise, risk factors.
