Overview
The communication informs about new pieces of knowledge in the etiopathogenesis of glaucoma and on new diagnostic potentials in patients down with glaucoma. The present trend is to diagnose cases of glaucoma in as early stage possible before any alteration of the visual field appears, and by treatment to prevent damage of the papilla of the optic nerve. Presented is detailed information about the Heidelberg retina tomography II (HRT II) and its potentials in the diagnostics of glaucoma, in the follow-up of the course of the disease and assessment of successful glaucoma treatment. On a sample of several patients adumbrated are its limits in examination and possible problems with diagnostics of glaucoma in optic nerve papillae of extreme dimensions.
