Overview
Prevention of the diabetic foot should be included in the preventive scheme for all diabetesmellitus late complications. Some of the diabetic patients - especially those on diet treatmentonly or treated by oral hypoglycaemic agents - are regularly checked by the general practitioner. This article deals with some basic recommendations about taking the specific history, performingthe examination including some special procedures, education of the patient and hisrelatives and recommending diabetic footwear for the patient. These quite simple and minimaltime consuming examinations and recommendations can prevent some serious foot complicationsincluding lower limb amputation in our diabetic patients.
