Overview
Of 22 children with hemiparetic cerebral palsy 19 were born pre-term, the other 3 after the 37th week ofgestation. All patients underwentMRI as an adjunct toCT, which was part of the previous follow up. In the pre-termborn children on cranial MRI paraventricular white matter lesions in T2 weighted and FLAIR images contrastedwith normal white matter of children born in term. CT did not demonstrate any change of white matter. MRimaging as a diagnostic tool in cerebral palsy seems to be a new source of information and an important markerof the degree of white matter brain damage. The results of MR examination support the hypothesis, that pre-termand in-term born patients with diparetic cerebral palsy form two different clinical entities.
