Overview
Aim:
To highlight the main aspects of the laboratory processing of blood samples from hematological patients in both preanalytical and analytical phases, point out to some interpretation pitfalls.
Material and Methods:
A retrospective analysis of the routine laboratory results from the large consolidated laboratory with the regard to the diagnosis of hematopoietic disorders.
Results:
Preanalytical and analytical phases of testing and interpretation of laboratory findings may be influenced by the patient’s hematological/hemato oncological diagnosis.
Conclusion:
In hematological patients individualized approach to the interpretation of laboratory test results in the closest possible clinical context should be followed.
Key words:
hematological patient, preanalytical phase, analytical phase.
