Diagnosing Myelodysplastic Syndrome According to MDS Europe
In 2021, the European Hematology Association (EHA) endorsed the recommendations of the MDS Europe group for the diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). MDS-RIGHT is a large European project aimed at providing the right care to the right patients with MDS at the right time, based on clinically evidenced recommendations.
Diagnosing MDS is challenging and requires a carefully taken medical history, several diagnostic tests, and sometimes a certain period of observation. The MDS Europe group has developed an interactive flowchart to facilitate doctors' access to relevant information for diagnosing MDS. This flowchart, whose basic structure we present below in a Czech translation, offers a detailed overview of the diagnostic process. Its interactive version in English is available on the website https://mds-europe.org/management/diagnosis/workup. By clicking on individual boxes (with the icon „i“ in the upper right corner), further details regarding that part of the diagnostic process will unfold. The flowchart is also usable on smaller electronic devices, such as mobile phones, and works best when rotated to landscape mode.

The MDS-RIGHT clinical practice recommendations allow for a step-by-step approach to individual patients from the diagnostic process through prognosis determination to the selection of MDS therapy. They can also be used as a training tool for medical students or young hematologists.
