The authors treated in an open prospective study 134 patients with exacerbation of chronicobstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with ciprofloxacin, 2x 250 mg, for a period of 10 says.131 patients (98 %) completed the trial, 3 (2 %) were eliminated. Treatment had a clinical effectin 127 (95 %). Sixty-six (49 %) patients were cured, 61 (46 %) improved, treatment failed in 5(4.3 %), treatment could not be evaluated in one patient (0.7 %). Undesirable effects wererecorded in 8 (6 %).The authors confirmed that ciprofloxacin is an effective and safe drug for exacerbations ofCOPD.
