Lower urinary tract infections during puerperium

Overview
In the introduction, the authors summarize the basic knowledge of lower urinary tract infections (LUTI) in women. They deal with their pathophysiology, their predisposition and risk factors and the protective mechanisms, outlining the examination and therapeutic methods. In the study involving 119 women hospitalized at Gynaecological and Obstetrical clinic of Faculty Hospital in Brno, in a puerperium ward, the authors determined the factors influencing the frequency of LUTI occurence during puerperium, the spectrum of microbial agens participating on the development of LUTI and they ascertained the socio-economic factors and obstetrical performances associated with the risk of LUTI induction.
