Radicular syndrome in the general practitioner’s surgery

Overview

This case study outlines the problems in treating lower back pain where the symptoms are of radicular origin. It is possible to have a well documented suspicion of pain associated with radicular nerve compression by means of current investigative methods in the GP’s surgery, however it is not always easy to get an appointment for magnetic resonance examination. A general pressure on cost containment is one of the reasons for this, both on GPs and on the specialists. However, such pressure does not always bring about real cost savings or effectivity.
