Overview
Impulse Oscillometry (IOS) is a quite recent method of lung function assessment, although itsprinciple is well known over 20 years, because is available for clinical use due to advancedcomputer technology. The system of IOS is a non-invasive, sensitive and quick method formeasurement of impedance, including resistance, in the lower airways. The basic differencebetween and advantage of IOS and conventional methods (spirometry, body pletysmography)is the short duration minimum of patient co-operation and last not least use of only tidalbreathing with no need for unnatural forced expiration during examination.
