To test the effectiveness of cefprozil an open multi-centre trial was made which comprised 52patients with exacerbation of COPD. The patients were subjected to clinical examination,spirometry, blood samples were taken to assess thenumber of leukocytes. Sputumwas subjectedto bacteriological examination.38 patients (73%) were cured, 13 (25%) improved. Treatment failed in 1 (2%).The most frequent undesirable effect was allergy which was recorded in 2 (4%) patients.
