In the submitted review the author presents some demographic indicators of ageing - mean lifespan, age index, number of population above 65 years in need of domicile or institutional care.Subsequently he describes in more detail the problem of expedient pharmacotherapy in o ld agewith different pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and possible drug interactions. In theconclusion the author explains non-pharmacological, pharmacological and social complianceand non-compliance in geriatrics incl. a brief case-history. He mentions also specific featuresof diseases of old age.
