A survey of skin lesions associated with chronological and premature ageing of the skin ispresented. The introductory part reviews extrinsic and intrinsic factors accelerating or other-wise modulating the skin ageing and describes structural and biochemical changes in theepidermis, dermis, and skin adnexes associated with the process of ageing.Another part describes skin lesions associated with very old age, age stigmas, and the majordiseases affecting old people more frequently, but not exclusively.In the conclusion the author emphasizes some preventive measures, in particular protectionfrom UV radiation by which many undesirable manifestations of old age can be prevented.
