Overview
Radiotherapy is indispensable in the treatment of seminomas. It has produced excellent results in the treatment of this disease, especially in its use, thus far, as a standard adjuvant treatment of stage I and curative treatment of stages IIA and IIB. The role of radiation of residual mass after chemotherapy in advanced or metastatic cases is debatable. In cases following surgery (orchiopexis, groin hernia surgery), apart from same-side radiation of the ilical area, double-sided inguinopelvic area radiation is done using the technique of two oppositely laid poles in the shape of an inverted ”Y“. Radiation of the hemiscrotum is not necessary if it was not preceded by adequate steps like orchiectomy or diagnostic abjection through puncture or excision, all of which could result in the contamination of the scrotum and a real danger of local deterioration. Radiotherapy in non-seminomas is generally indicated as a palliative treatment, or in individual cases as adjuvant - radiation of residual infiltrates after chemotherapy (when they are inoperable)
